How To Get Into A Regular Sleep Cycle

From the time I was a kid, I’ve always had a hard time sleeping somewhere other than my own bed. My parents would even pick me up from sleepovers as soon as everyone started getting ready for bed — I just wanted to be in my own space.

As an adult, I’ve never liked the idea of sleeping pills — I’ve heard too many horror stories of zombie-like effects. So for a long time, I basically accepted the fact that if I was away from home, I would almost definitely sacrifice sleep. It never kept me from traveling, but it did mean many nights of less than satisfactory rest. I finally discovered that most of my issues came down to routine. Now, if I stick to a familiar routine, I can get a decent amount of rest, even if I’m camping in the wilderness.

Hello Blue CBD Sleep is perfect for helping you stay in your nighttime routine while you are on the go.

Don’t go crazy

First, I have to pay close attention to what I’m eating, especially at dinner and for evening snacks. Being away from home almost guarantees the inability to eat exactly what you have in your own kitchen, but mimicking normalcy as much as possible helps. So, I usually avoid trying something I’ve never eaten before, especially the first night in a new place. I pick foods I know and keep it as simple as possible. I’m not saying you have to eat a bland meal the first night of vacation, just maybe don’t go nuts on foods and drinks you’ve never had before. And, pack familiar snacks.

Keep it calm

I’m also sure to not eat too much as bedtime approaches. I love a late-night sweet snack, so I stick with a couple small pieces of dark chocolate or a fig bar. For a long time I didn’t believe in the calming effects of nighttime tea, but I’m an absolute convert now. I love peppermint and chamomile with a little lemon and honey. I don’t know that there’s anything necessarily magical going on with Sleepytime tea, but again, it’s the routine. Just like reading a child a bedtime story, doing specific things readies the body for rest.

Hello Blue CBD Sleep has also become part of my routine. It contains 600mg  – 1200mg of CBD (cannabidiol) and 300mg of Melatonin per fluid ounce to help you get the rest you need, no matter where you are. The lemon flavor is a perfect addition to nighttime tea, and the 0.5 oz. bottle is perfect for traveling, and even backpacking!

CBD and melatonin that can be absorbed through the cheek or under the tongue are used for insomnia, shift-work disorder…even to calm people before receiving anesthesia for surgery.

Phil Gaimon is Making Us Better

Phil Gaimon uses a variety of Hello Blue CBD products. Check out the end of this post for a list of some of his favorites

Sure, we all need seemingly immortal athletes to inspire us to be our best in our versions of fitness and competition, but Phil Gaimon is proving that making the world a better place means caring about more than just stage races.

Gaimon raced professionally from 2009-2016, and when he walked away from cycling at the highest level, he started having fun. But also, he started making cycling fun for everyone. When he’s not handing out cookies to the pros half-naked in a Cookie Monster head, he’s setting KOM (King of the Mountain) records around the world on Strava, for his YouTube show, “Worst Retirement Ever.”

More People on Bikes

Gaimon has become a crucial voice in the cycling community, constantly advocating for better infrastructure and for finding ways to make riding a bike easier and safer. One of his most recent projects is in partnership with State Bicycle Company. Together, they’re attempting to break down the barriers to bike commuting and bike riding for everyday errands.

Phil Gaimon and State Bicycle Company will help you bike to work

Cookie Fondo

And for the third consecutive year, Gaimon is hosting his own Cookie Fondo, benefiting Chef’s Cycle for No Kid Hungry, which does great work across the U.S. funding meal programs at public schools. This two-day event — October 26th-27th — features a course for every rider. From the 32-mile “mini chip” that boasts no climbs at all, to the “double fudge” for the “nearly crazy by all measurable standards,” which involves 12,000 feet of climbing over 110 miles.

Changing the world — making an actual difference — sounds daunting to anyone. But Gaimon is using his platform to not only help kids in need, but also to remind us what’s really important. Bikes are for everyone, and being good to each other is something that we could all practice more.

Phil puts Hello Blue CBD Energy in his coffee for an early-morning boost without the crash

Want to help make a difference? Check out the Cookie Fondo, No Kid Hungry, and Gaimon’s collaboration with State Bicycle Company on his website. And if you’re in the Santa Barbara area, head to the Hillclimb World Championship and bring him some cookies (just, not oatmeal raisin).

Phil’s Hello Blue CBD Products of Choice:

Energy (cappuccino flavor) in the morning, usually mixed in with a cup of coffee

Original Full Spectrum after a workout

Sleep (lemon flavor) before bed

Phil also uses Muscle Butter ACTIVE on whatever is sore…and considering how hard he rides, there is usually quite a bit that is sore.

A Sting to the Snout: CBD for Pets

Road Trip!

I would be hard pressed to remember the last time I was stung by a bee or wasp. In fact, I’m not sure it’s ever happened in my adult years. I vaguely recall a bee sting or two at the local pool when I was a child — my brother and I likely taunting with sticky snacks.

But at the tail end of a week-long road trip through Montana, I encountered an unpleasant reminder. My husband and I had our dog, Ten Paws — a 65-pound boxer-mix — on a short hike to swim at Flathead Lake. We had biked and hiked all week, and were just looking for a casual late-afternoon outing. I wore running shoes and short socks instead of hiking boots. We didn’t bring any of our usual first-aid gear.

If you have an anxious dog, Hello Blue CBD For Pets may be the answer

Unwelcome Encounter

After splashing in the water and snapping some photos of the crystal clear lake, we headed back to our cabin. We always hike with Ten Paws between us, in case we come upon another dog or something unexpected. Seemingly out of nowhere, Ten Paws started yelping like I’ve never heard. He swatted his nose and bucked like a bronco. Then I realized what was happening, and felt the hot pinches on my ankles. I shouted, “Go, go, go!” Yellow jackets were everywhere — stinging all of us nonstop. We ran through the woods, ducked under a fallen tree, and dashed up the hill.

All told, we each suffered several stings and a heavy jolt of adrenaline. After stopping at the local drugstore for Benadryl, we couldn’t stop sympathizing with the terror Ten Paws had experienced. At 2-years-old, he’s not exactly a puppy, but often still has the energy of one. In reality, he probably handled the scare better than any of us, but it was still traumatic.

CBD Soothes

We add CBD oil to Ten’s food (or in a freezy-treat, see recipe) to calm him down, take away anxiety, and help him get a solid night of sleep, even on days when we haven’t been running for our lives!

Freezy-treat recipe: (make 2-3 at a time)

“Freezy Treat” — your dog is going to love it!

4 tablespoons of unsweetened applesauce

40 drops Hello Blue CBD For Pets

Mix together

Spoon into a kong or small Tupperware container (Ten Paws likes his in a little green dish — easy to lick!)

Freeze mixture and serve
